The Sponge (La Esponja) is an islet located off the coast of Playa den Bossa, within the Marine Protected Area of Ibiza. The dive basically consists of going around it anti-clockwise, starting from the South side where the maximum depth is reached, where we find a cliff-type wall with large rocks at the base, located at 33 meters deep, between which there are nooks and crannies of great color thanks to the coating made by colonies of bryozoans, Cladocora coral formations, sponges, etc. and abundant life. Highlights include slipper lobster, mediterranean lobsters, scorpion fish, conger eels and groupers.
The dive ends back on the South-West slope, but this time on a rocky platform at a shallower depth (8-10 meters) where divers enjoy abundant fredis, Mediterranean rainbow wrasses, salemas, barracudas and octopi, which also makes the dive in La Esponja an ideal place for beginners. It is a dive site in which you can discover the great wealth and beauty that our underwater world hides.
