It is one of the most outstanding and requested dives offered by Vellmari Formentera and, without a doubt, the most special one. To the tremendous variety of species that populate La Plataforma, there are some metallic structures that seem to be taken from a science fiction movie.

The Platform is located on the West side of the islet of Espardell, North-East of Formentera, less than 20 minutes navigating from Vellmari Diving Center. Formerly known as “La Mariana”, it was a floating fish farm that was used for the breeding and fattening of sea bream and sea bass. As time past by, it ceased to be profitable and its owners gradually neglected its maintenance until it collapsed.

It is a gigantic hexagonal structure that rests tilted from 12 meters down to the sandy bottom at 32 meters deep, lying on one of its sides on a few columns that once served as a base when it was still working. The Platform is a monumental metal complex that forms a unique wreck that shelters innumerable local species.

The wreck has acted as an artificial reef recruiting numerous marine species. Omnipresent throughout the dive, the thousands of barracudas that surround the entire structure with their calm and dashing attitude that do not seem to fear the divers and tend to be indifferent to their presence. You can also see large amberjacks, slipper lobsters, conger eels, moray eels, scorpionfish and countless crustaceans.
