Dive Site Punta Gavina – Formentera
This dive site is found on the West side of Formentera, inside the Marine Protected Area
Required level: Any.
Maximum depth: 25 meters.
Minimum depth: 6 meters.
Typical Mediterranean dive that stands out for the comfort and simplicity of its route, in which we have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of underwater landscapes such as: a small cave, the coralligenous, the Posidonia meadows, the rock walls, the sandy bottoms, etc.
The dive begins in a shallow rocky platform where the mooring of the boat is located at 9 meters depth. On this platform, which runs along the coastline of Formentera on the West side, there is a place with large schools of salemas, octopus, groupers and brown meagres. This platform is delimited by a vertical wall that falls down to 25 meters. The wall is very colorful and is covered with bryozoans, sponges and coral algae, a privilege for those who love macro life. In the lower limit there is a small cave with thousands of cardinal fish, forkbeards, slipper lobsters and orange shrimps. Among the species that can be seen in the area of Punta Gavina, special mention includes: the Zeus (from February to June), the curious goldblotch groupers, and the schools of hundreds of white seabreams.
