The caves of ‘San Guillem’ are one of the popular dive sites within the local divers of Formentera, which is a clear indicator of the beauty they offer. It is an ideal dive site for divers of every level due to its easiness, for those trying out their first cave dive, but also stunning for divers who are interested in different environments and backlighting.

These caves are situated to the South of Punta Rasa, around 15 minutes by boat from La Savina Port. A few meters away from the mooring point which is 16 meters deep, we find the entrance to the first cave. The entrance leads into a well illuminated cavern which is suitable for all-level divers. Nevertheless, a diving light or torch is essential. This first cave also has two big air bubbles where we can ascend to the surface to enjoy the the whimsical shapes and spectacular lighting effects on the interior walls. In the chamber located closest to the entrance to the cave, the blue of the sea becomes so bright that it looks electric.

The second cave is just a few meters to the North of the first one following the wall on the right hand side. Here it’s easy to find a small school of brown meagres trying to find a place where to hide at the end of the main chamber. As before, the light from the entrance illuminates a large part of the cavern and also has a big air bubble where to enjoy the colorful dome.

Although caves do not usually stand out for their marine life, the more observant divers will see that these ones are inhabited by hundreds of shrimps. And in the area outside, resting on the white sand, it is easy to find small stingrays.
